WELCOME TO THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN TRYON
Whoever you are and wherever you are on life's journey, you are welcome here!
This Week in Worship
Dear Friends in Christ,
Mary Oliver in her poem "Lead" writes, "Here is a story to break your heart. Are you willing?" The stories and events of Holy Week witness to the last week of Jesus' life. We walk from a palm procession protest march, to a sacred meal and the washing of feet, through betrayal, desertion and execution. It is a story to break our hearts. We feel the pain, the sorrow, the loneliness, and hurt. We grieve. We revisit our wounds. We search for hope and light in the darkest points of the Lenten wilderness journey.
Mary Oliver ends her poem with these words, "I tell you this to break your heart, by which I mean only that it break open and never close again to the rest of the world." The Holy Week story, with both it's grief and sorrow, and Easter ending in joyous celebration, has that power. Not only can it break our hearts, it can break them wide open to possibility, love, and new life.
Here is a story to break your heart. Are you willing?
Join us for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday as we journey into a story that, by God's grace, will break our hearts.
As we embrace the communal nature of Lenten practices (see our Lenten Devotional), this week we are fasting. How is this spiritual discipline centering you during this Holy Week?
