The Congregational Church began in 1891 as an all denominational Sunday school discussion voluntarily lead by Dr. Oscar Missildine. They met in a small frame building that was owned by the Northern Methodists, who had attempted and failed to start a church on the site. the land was purchased and on July 21,1892 "The United Church if Christ of Tryon" was formed.
